Our camp at Cat-Lai

We were part of Brigade Headquarters, half of our company was stationed at base camp and the other half was stationed at Cat-Lai. From Cat-Lai we provided the units in the field with comminications support. Our Rifle platoon was also very busy protecting the camp at Cat-Lai and went out on daily missions.

As I remember it we worked very hard at the Cat-Lai outpost as I like to refer to the camp. Along side of us at Cat-Lai was D-Troop 17th Cav another of the US Army's best. We all made friends with someone from the 17th Cav and if I come accross any photos of the 17th cav I will post them on this site. If anyone would like to contribute photos please contact me via the email address on the contact me page.

Memorable moments:

Anyone remember the show Martha Rae put on for us? After the show she took us to the beer hall & had a few beers with us.

How about Nancy Sinatra, any one remember her show at Long Binh?

Anyone remember the General's snake at Cat-Lai and how a bunch of us would stand around on feeding day and watch it take in a whole live chicken?

I know we all remember the s_ _ t burning details. Oh and how could we ever forget those damn rotten eggs mixed with powdered eggs to cover up the tainted taste of an egg gone bad.

On one occasion I was treated to a meal in the officers mess at Cat-Lai and I assure you they were not eating the same food we were eating!

Who else besides the US Army would give you your very own home complete with lake front at absolutely no cost to you & free meals too! And lets not forget about the free river boat service.
